To address the urgent need for the development of safe and more targeted therapies for people with malignant brain tumors, Duane Mitchell, MD, PhD, and his teammates are developing new treatments using immunotherapy, a strategy that helps patients fight cancer with their own defenses.

In 2013, Dr. Mitchell joined the University of Florida as the Phyllis Kottler Friedman professor of neurosurgery and director of the UF Brain Tumor Immunotherapy Program in the newly created Preston A. Wells, Jr. Center for Brain Tumor Therapy. He recently published a paper in an issue of Nature, a prominent science journal, which highlighted his promising discoveries in immunotherapy strategies for brain cancer.
